Kate Gracheck has joined JETCycling for the 2012 Road Season!!!! Just as an update on her journey, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2008, just 10 days after racing at collegiate nationals. After 5 months of treatment (chemo and radiation) and 11 months to the day after her diagnosis, she won the masters points race and came back two days later to win the team pursuit.. She did not want to just survive cancer, she wanted to kick it’s a** and those titles help her put the exclamation point in that sentence. The following winter, she crashed at a training camp, fracturing L1 and L2 in addition to breaking her collarbone and suffering a severe concussion. The following season she came back to win Colorado Velodrome Association Rider of the Year. This past year she lived in Bellingham, WA while completing my pre-doctoral internship and won the state crit championship despite awful weather, writing a dissertation, and long internship hours. As you have gathered, the past three seasons were full of obstacles but they made her even hungrier for setting goals and winning. Given her recent graduation and budding career as a psychologist, she is looking at 2012 as my final season of racing, and would like to do it with JETCycling. She has a passion to share her knowledge, and mentorship with our young elite women. Kate, you are an inspiration! Welcome aboard to the JETCycling Team.
